YABATECH Partners with AuthorAID to Enhance Research Capacity

​YABA College of Technology (YABATECH) has partnered with a non-governmental organisation, AuthorAID National Research Hub, to enhance institutions in Nigeria on their capacity in research award winning grant, proposal writing and publication in high-impact journals.

​Rector of the college, Obafemi Omokungbe, who spoke at the launching of the AuthorAID, said that the research hub would meet the needs of academics in the college and other institutions in Nigeria.

He said that the national hub would be domiciled at the TETFund Centre of Excellence in Skills, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, adding that one of the objectives of the centre is to build capacity in applied/innovative research and skills development.

This, he said, aligns closely with the goal of the National Research Hub.

“YABATECH is committed to supporting its academics to develop research skills and build their careers and also create the enabling environment.

“The impact of research must be strengthened and activities should contribute to policy development, evidence-based decisions, research applications and innovations,” he stated.


He, however, thanked the AuthorAID and the International Network for Advancing Science and Policy (INASP), United Kingdom for supporting the initiative and the partnership with YABATECH to host the National Hub for Nigerian researchers.

In her welcome address, the National Coordinator, AuthorAID, Dr. Funmilayo Doherty, noted that the hub is a free pioneering global network that provides support, mentoring, resources and training for researchers in low- and middle-income countries.

The network, she said, would provide the expertise needed to respond to the challenges, saying that AuthorAID stewards, leaders and other established researchers from Nigeria would be involved as mentors.

The Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nssuka (UNN), Prof. Charles Igwe, in his goodwill message, commended AuthorAID UK for its tremendous contributions towards the development of the research capacity of Nigerian researchers. He noted that students from UNN had benefited immensely from the online training.
