The #NETSAFE campaign is a pet project of the Women Initiative Sustainable Endeavor (WISE). The Initiative which aims at promoting best practices over cyberspace is promoting an annual tour of educational institutions with the #NETSAFE message tagged the “NETSAFEEDUTOUR” targeted at educating young people on how best to conduct themselves on the internet and its society. The project execution gravitates towards enlightening the public through an online hashtag and offline physical lecture campaign series against the wrong use and negative consumption of the internet in our community, while projecting more light on the positive use of the internet.
This brilliant initiative sees the future of Nigeria in the youth and tailors its schools’ visits to educate children of all ages on the dangers of excessive internet usage. The 2018 edition of the campaign kicked off on Thursday May 24, 2018 in Abuja and Lagos. It featured founding members of WISE as well as zonal volunteer representatives in different states to engage students in a 20mins educative and interactive session. The audience consisted of student representatives from various classes, teachers, members of staff and the PTA. The #NETSAFEEDTOUR which has been adopted to be an annual campaign to mark World Children’s Day visited schools in Abuja, Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Calabar and Jos this year.
