Wahamba! in Collaboration with Bella Naija Organizes the Open Your Heart Camp for Autistic Teens with Special Needs
Open Your Heart Camp is a nature-learning and empowerment programme for underprivileged teenagers in Nigeria. Every year, they focus on a set of under-served teenagers. In 2018, the focus is on economically disadvantaged teens living with autism and the date for this year’s camp is Saturday, July 21, 2018.
This year, with the theme being “Explorers with a Difference”, the organizers plan to use the natural forest reserve and practical farm activities to empower autistic teens in an inclusive environment with neurotypical teens. It will teach them to respect nature, build communities, inspire self-determination and learn more about where their food comes from.
The camp aims to break through personal limits and inhibitions, therefore helping the kids to share a mutually beneficial relationship with the natural environment. Furthermore, they will produce artwork, maps, charts and personal goals from their experience.
This event is organized by Wahamba!. It is facilitated by experienced nature-learning leaders as well as experts in teaching children living with autism.
The program is completely free for selected teen participants. If you know any autistic teen who fits this bill, kindly nominate them here.
