Lagos Island, Lagos State, 20th January 2020 — The Unite 2030 International Changemaker organization has launched a local chapter for the self-governing and implementation of the critical objectives of the organization in the city of Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria. The organization was created to build a thriving Changemaker Network by creating local chapters that will eventually become the foundation of a flourishing and ever-growing organizational structure. The Lagos State chapter was created to strengthen local governance within the state and the local community as part of a global effort to solve SDGs. The Lagos Chapter will be focused on building the skill set of members, grow the membership base, develop strong partnerships, host events, inspire local action towards the SDGs, and promote entrepreneurship & leadership within the immediate community.
The Lagos Chapter was created in November 2019 to offer opportunities to changemakers who are determined to create an impact within their local community using this platform. By becoming a part of this initiative, every member is allowed to contribute to a global cause by influencing locally, just as Changemaker chapters do it across the globe. In pursuit of the above, a few changemakers signed up to take on the challenge of establishing the first Changemaker chapter in Lagos state to achieve the key objectives as outlined in the organization’s charter. A local chapter president was appointed to do the following:
The founding President of the UNITE 2030 Changemaker Lagos chapter is Miss Sophiyat Sadiq. Miss Sadiq has entirely accepted her appointment. She has met the essential requirement for the setup of a local chapter, which included a verbal intent to sign the license agreement via mail, assembling a team, accessing information pack, and, most important, raising funds for the license fee. Miss Sadiq inspired members to contribute to the fundraising and was very successful in raising funds to pay the $150 license fee. The leadership team exhibited a deep sense of commitment towards raising funds for the license fee on short notice, and it is highly commendable and deeply appreciated. As a result, the UNITE 2030 Changemaker organization will now officially recognize the Lagos chapter as a part of a global campaign to solve SDGs via the Changemaker platform. Having met one of the significant requirements to set up a local chapter, Miss Sadiq proceeded to build her leadership team. Members indicated interest by sending in their profiles and statement of service; qualified persons have been selected and elected based on merit and relation to the overall vision of the platform. The following persons were selected and appointed to the leadership team:
