The Heartmenders Foundation is a non-governmental organization that provides essential needs to vulnerable people in low income communities. Their projects encompass distribution of food relief items, medical check ups, provisions of educational materials to children, nursing mothers and vulnerable families. The Heartmenders Foundation held a remarkable children’s day outreach on the 27th of May, 2024 at Shomolu, Bariga Lagos State. The outreach was inspired by the children’s day celebration with the aim to reach out to the children and nursing mothers in the Shomolu community. A total of 150 children were present at the outreach, including nursing mothers.
They had a number of volunteers who helped in organizing and giving out the gifts items such as noodles, rice, toothbrushes, diapers, books, pens, clothes and shoes to both children and mothers. The Heartmenders Foundation also had amazing partners like Lagos Food Bank Initiative and Pen Drive Foundation. NigerianNGO interviewed the Founder of The Heartmenders Foundation, Mary Fidelis, who said the foundation started from observing children in her community not having clothes and shoes to wear and so she decided to reach out to family members who had school bags, water bottles, stationeries and food items to donate to these children. James Mary who was a volunteer at the outreach said she decided to volunteer with The Heartmenders Foundation because she loves children and she was excited about giving back to children in Shomolu. While Adegbule Grace, another volunteer said she was inspired to join the foundation because she wanted to help children in her community by showing love to them through the children’s day outreach. We appreciate The Heartmenders Foundation for organizing the children’s day outreach to impact and celebrate children in Nigeria. The smiles and joy radiating from the children who participated in the children’s day outreach show clearly that the program was successful.
