In commemoration of world cleanup day, held annually on September 17, street waste company limited, SWCL, partnered with the food and beverage recycling alliance, FBRA, for a cleanup exercise at Ereko/Fadeyi, Lagos state. The co-founder, SWCL, Ms. Omoh Alokwe, during the cleanup event, explained that the purpose of the exercise was to sensitize people within Ereko/ Fadeyi, and its environs on the importance of sorting waste from the street, in order to ensure a clean environment.
Alokwe noted that the cleanup activities at Ereko Street, where a recycling centre was located, saw volunteers remove about 565.5kg of waste from the street and drainage. In her words:” World cleanup day is globally set aside to enlighten the public on the impact of human actions on the environment. So, today’s event is about taking care of our environment. This is by avoiding indiscriminate disposal of waste on the streets and in canals. We all know that a clean environment gives a healthy environment.” Convener of SWCL noted. On what street waste company limited, SWCL, stood for, Alokwe said:” As a company, we are committed to the recovery of non-biodegradable and recyclable waste materials. This is also as we create awareness, and commitment towards a sustainable environment.” She said. While appreciating the food and beverage recycling alliance, FBRA, and members of Ereko/Fadeyi environment for their support, Alokwe reiterated that the drive towards a sustainable environment was everyone’s responsibility.
