The SustyVibes street conference in Lagos, Nigeria held on the 23rd of September in the Dopemu area of Lagos State. SustyVibes is a community where young people with a passion for a just world come together to connect and design new ways of living, for the environment and the planet at large. The take off point for the outreach was the Dopemu market office. The team was met by the local government officials as well as the Baba Oja of the market , who welcomed the team to the community and appraised them of some of the rules of engagement in how we interact with the traders.
After which the group of participants was split in two; clean up and advocacy. The clean up team walked through the market, picking up recyclable and non recyclable dirt and tidying up the market. While this was going on the advocacy team engaged the traders on the importance of proper waste management and keeping a tidy environment in general. NigerianNGO was able to speak to two Key members of the Susty Vibes on their view about the event. Mr David Obende, who is a member of the Susty Vibes project team, spoke on the importance of clean up advocacy and recycling. He also shared the importance of sensitising people about proper waste disposal. We also spoke to Ms Ugwunna Sonia, the head of projects at Susty vibes. She described the program as their ‘annual street conference’ which holds every year to celebrate World Clean up day. Members of our community can connect with Susty Vibes via the following channels.
