A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), EL’S Empowerment Foundation, Friday, provided free training and skills acquisition programme for over 200 less privileged persons, particularly widows, youths and orphans in Edo State.
The free training, which is aimed at improving the lives of the down trodden in the society, is a week-long exercise for residents in Benin city and its environs.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the empowerment programme, National Coordinator and State Coordinators of Foundation, Kolade Jeffery and Iyen Obaseki Omoruyi respectively said the gesture to the needy in Edo State is a way of touching their lives positively.
Kolade expressed optimism that the over 200 less-privileged individuals available for the free training would benefit from the various skills acquisition programme provided by the foundation to help alleviate the suffering of the widows and orphans.
He added that training would provide the opportunity for the beneficiaries to be able to start a business with certificates presented after the successful completion of the training in the various skills.
According to him, the training which started today is set to train and empower at least 200 individuals who intend to learn skills acquisition in liquid soap making, film production, script writing/directing, throw pillow making, tie-dye (Adire), Bead/Accessory making, hair fascinator, chin-chin among others.
“EL’S empowerment aims to lift the vulnerable people in the society particularly, widows, orphans and youth seeking for a greener pasture. The organisation caters, trains and empowers this set of individuals and set them up to be able to start a business of theirs.” Kolade said.
