Donor Agencies in Nigeria

For the subject of this conversation, donor agencies are bodies or organisations that support non governmental bodies with the required financial and in some cases non financial resources required to achieve their objectives and complete projects.

Donor agencies provide the required support to these organisations and in return often require that the organisations produce results that serve as evidence of optimal utilisation of the funds at levels that have been determined upon the inception of the agreement.

The donor scape in Nigeria is not as vibrant as what is obtainable from or western contemporaries. However, we have identified a few Nigerian organisations that have made it their work to provide a lifeline to Nigerian NGOs so they can continue to make a sustained impact in the Nigerian society.
Below are the subject organisations.

1.The Nigerian Humanitarian Fund: The Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), launched in February 2017, is a rapid and flexible funding mechanism supporting Nigerian NGOs, international NGOs and UN agencies, to respond to the most pressing or critical emergencies in a fast-changing environment. It is a pooled fund managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Under the leadership of the Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, the NHF supports    the timely allocation and disbursement of donor resources to the most critical humanitarian needs defined in the Nigeria Humanitarian Response Plan.

​2. Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation: Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation is a grant making non-profit organization established in 2016 to support local, national and regional non – profit organizations working to address challenges and associated vulnerabilities across the African Continent.

They seek to promote broad based participation/partnership with other institutions and/or donor organizations aimed at building sustainable communities and to provide innovative solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges. Their focus areas cover health, environment, entrepreneurship and leadership.

3. Women in Finance Nigeria: This is a not-for-profit coalition of women in the Nigerian financial sector whose vision is to harness and leverage on the unique and extensive capabilities of women in Nigeria’s financial sector in order to create a force for positive change in the society.

The aim of the organisation is to support individuals and organisations that promote and ensure financial inclusion of women in Nigeria.

4. Giving.NG: This is a crowdfunding platform that gives grants to projects. The grants are known as completion or finishing grants and are designed to help fund raisers achieve their goals faster and successfully.
