 A non-governmental organisation, the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), on Tuesday, launched a community driven anti-corruption initiative in Kano to promote good governance and accountability in the utilization of public resources. Executive Director of the CHRICED, Dr Ibrahim Zikrullahi, said in his inaugural speech at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, venue of the launch, that the initiative was to engage communities in the fight against corruption.
He said ordinary citizens had lost hope and have been alienated from the governance process, hence the need for a sense of engagement. The new initiative, according to Zikrullah, would work with all stakeholders ranging from communities, anti-corruption agencies, the media and civil agencies to ensure accountability of constituency projects. He said at the end of the project in three years time, CHRICED would have ensured a drastic reduction in corruption, with respect to the delivery of key social services, particularly constituency projects in Kano.
