 A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Arise Women, has said it would hold a road walk in different locations in Lagos State on October 16 and 30, 2021. The walk-show, according to it, is aimed at creating awareness and mobilising support for women, as well as protecting the rights of girl-child in the society.
Founder/Convener of the organisation, Dr. Siju Iluyomade, who disclosed this, yesterday, said the walk would also take place in other states in Nigeria and the rest of world where the organisation is operating, which include London, Canada, Malaysia, United States (U.S.), Scotland, Dubai and Ghana, among others. She said the NGO started 13 years ago and it has empowered over 20,000 women by providing skills acquisition and sending them to academies to learn leather works millinery baking, soap pomade and insecticide making and event planning. Iluyomade explained that at the end of the end of the training the NGO would support trainees with modest financial resources and types of equipment such as sewing and grinding machines, deep freezers and hair dryers. She hinted that another milestone is the NGO’s proposed building of a village in Lagos State and the village will have a fully-fledged women’s hospital, fully computerized literacy and resource centre and a skills acquisition and empowerment academy.
