Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the world’s leading cause of death, responsible for more lives each year than cancer and chronic respiratory illnesses combined. Alarming figures show that one in five people will die prematurely from heart-related conditions. Yet, experts stress that up to 80% of cases of heart disease and stroke are preventable through healthier lifestyle choices, early detection, and timely medical care. Each year on 29 September, the world comes together to mark World Heart Day, a global campaign to raise awareness about CVD and promote heart-healthy living. The initiative brings individuals, families, schools, communities, and governments together under one mission: to place heart health at the forefront of public and personal priorities.
This year carries special significance as 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of World Heart Day. The milestone is celebrated under the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat”, a call to action urging people not to ignore the vital steps that protect heart health. The theme highlights the importance of regular check-ups, balanced nutrition, active lifestyles, and early diagnosis in reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. As World Heart Day turns 25, the message is clear: protecting your heart is not just a personal responsibility but a collective effort. By making small but consistent changes—whether as individuals or societies—we can prevent millions of lives from being cut short and ensure healthier futures worldwide. Source: WORLD HEART FEDERATION
