World Day for the Prevention and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence

Child sexual exploitation and abuse remain pervasive global issues, affecting millions of children across all regions and backgrounds. Girls are particularly at risk, facing threats both online and offline, and even more so during conflicts, displacement, and other crises. These violations leave deep, lasting impacts on a child’s physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

In a world still grappling with inequality, poverty, climate-related disasters, and the aftermath of COVID-19, many protective systems remain weak — leaving children vulnerable and often unheard. Sadly, countless survivors never disclose their experiences, silenced by fear, stigma, or lack of support.

To strengthen global commitment, the United Nations established 18 November as the World Day for the Prevention and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence. The day urges governments, civil society, faith institutions, educators, families, and the private sector to unite in raising awareness, ensuring justice, improving support systems, and creating safer environments for children.

The 2025 theme, “Strengthening the protection of children through evidence-based policy making,” underscores the need for reliable data to guide effective laws and interventions. Strong policies—rooted in research and real-world evidence—are essential to tackling modern threats, including digital exploitation.

As we observe this day, we’re reminded that every child deserves safety, dignity, and healing. By speaking up, advocating for stronger protections, and supporting survivors, we all play a vital role in building a world where every child can grow free from fear and harm.
