Child labour remains one of the most heartbreaking violations of a child's rights denying children their innocence, education, and safety. It's not just about work; it's about exploitation, danger, and stolen futures. From hazardous jobs to forced labour, trafficking, and exploitation, these acts break both international and national laws. Many children are pulled out of school or forced to juggle learning with exhausting labour—leaving scars that can last a lifetime.
Since 2002, the International Labour Organization has marked June 12 as the World Day Against Child Labour—a day to raise awareness and call for action. Each year, it brings together global voices in the fight to end child exploitation. This year’s theme, “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts!”, is a timely reminder that while we’ve made real progress, millions of children still remain trapped in unacceptable conditions. The 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Target 8.7, call for the complete elimination of child labour by 2025. That includes ending modern slavery, trafficking, and the recruitment of children for armed conflict. As that deadline nears, we must do more than raise awareness—we must act. Every child deserves the freedom to learn, to grow, and to dream. On this World Day, let’s not just reflect—let’s recommit. Together, we can build a world where no child has to work instead of wonder. Source: INTERNATIONAL LABOR ORGANIZATION
