In a bold step toward advancing women’s economic resilience in conflict-affected areas, the Centre for Redefining Alternative Civic Engagement (RACE Centre) and the Gender & Environmental Risk Reduction Initiative (GERI), with support from the French Embassy, hosted a high-level advocacy forum in Makurdi under the Promoting Women’s Economic Resilience (POWER) project. The forum brought together key government agencies, civil society groups, and international stakeholders to strengthen collaborative efforts in empowering women economically across impacted communities in Benue State.
Among those present were representatives from the Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development (BICD), SMEDAN, the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), and the Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Women Affairs, and Trade and Investment. Also in attendance were delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO), other international organizations, and financial institutions. The gathering resulted in strong institutional commitments aimed at driving inclusive policies, improving access to financial resources, and ensuring long-term support for women navigating the economic fallout of conflict. The POWER project continues to position women as key agents in rebuilding sustainable livelihoods in fragile settings. Source: VANGUARDNG
