On September 28th, 2024, the PCOS Conquerors celebrated a significant milestone—hosting their annual PCOS Awareness Conference and marking their 5th anniversary. The event was designed to raise awareness about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), while creating a safe, supportive space for individuals with PCOS to find healing and grow. The day kicked off with registration and a welcome breakfast. Shortly after, Blessing Mosugu, the Master of Ceremony, opened the event, followed by a screening of a thought-provoking PCOS documentary. Seyi Amao, Co-founder and CEO of PCOS Conquerors, gave a heartfelt welcome address, sharing her personal journey and expressing gratitude for the community's growth. She reflected on the progress made over the past five years, highlighting how many women have found support, improvement, and even great news to share by joining the community. A captivating keynote address followed, delivered by Mrs. Orode Meyiwa Uduaghan. She emphasized the importance of awareness for everyone and praised the strength and impact of the PCOS Conquerors community. Two insightful panel sessions took place during the conference. The first, "Empowering Health: Innovative Medical Solutions for Period Problems, Metabolic Challenges, and Infertility," featured expert speakers Dr. Yakubu Usman, Dr. Abosede Lewu, and was moderated by Chidinma Azike. The second panel, "Hormones and Health: Nutrition and the Naturopathic Way," offered practical advice and featured speakers Nene Adedokun, Hala El Hachem, and Chef Amaka Nwakalor-Egemba, moderated by Mimi Chaka. Stephanie Coker Aderinokun presented a powerful documentary titled Where the Heck is My Period?, which resonated deeply with attendees. The event also included engaging activities like a PCOS fitness routine demo led by Mayowa Naomi from Trimcyster, a presentation on Gut Health & Probiotics by Mich & Kay, and led by Winifred Nwanla. Throughout the conference, themes of resilience, hope, and the unwavering strength of women with PCOS were celebrated. Attendees enjoyed an art therapy session, free body massages, networking opportunities, and special moments like the cake cutting and awards ceremony. Partnerships and future collaborations were also announced, signaling further support for the PCOS community. In an exclusive interview, Mrs. Seyi Amao revealed the personal challenges that inspired her to create the PCOS Conquerors community. After experiencing prolonged bleeding and recognizing the stigma surrounding fertility issues in Africa, she founded the group to offer support and accessible information for women. She also announced plans for future collaborations with government agencies to improve healthcare access for women with PCOS across Africa.
