The Ondo State Government has announced plans to empower over 1,000 women and youths through agricultural training, financial assistance, and farm equipment to enhance food security and economic growth. Seun Osamaye, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Women Affairs, made this known in Akure, emphasizing that the initiative aims to promote financial independence and unlock the full potential of farmers in the state’s economic diversification efforts.
The program aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative—an agricultural support scheme led by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Dubbed the Women Agricultural Support Programme (WASP), the initiative seeks to encourage women and youth participation in agriculture. The official launch is set for Monday. As part of the scheme, 200 women in agriculture will receive specialized training in planting techniques and cash support to boost their agricultural ventures, reinforcing food security in the state.
