The Nigerian Women for Agriculture Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) has introduced the FarmAssure blockchain initiative, a groundbreaking solution aimed at closing the connectivity gap for rural farmers, particularly women. Speaking at NWAPDI’s Annual General Meeting, Conference, and Gala Night, the organisation’s President, Omolara Svenson, underscored the importance of continuous innovation in driving economic growth. She highlighted FarmAssure’s potential to transform agriculture by providing farmers with independent internet connectivity, ensuring their seamless integration into the global agricultural economy.
Representing the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, the Director of Programme and Policy Coordination, Ibrahim Tanimu, emphasized the crucial role of technology-driven solutions in advancing agriculture. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering women and youth in agribusiness, citing ongoing programs focused on youth employment in agriculture, agribusiness development, and livelihood improvement through family enterprises. The FarmAssure initiative is expected to enhance rural agricultural productivity by ensuring farmers have the necessary digital infrastructure to compete in an increasingly tech-driven global market.
