In a bold move to address youth unemployment and promote vocational skills, the Nnewi Youth Forum has unveiled the Nnewi Youth Sustainable Empowerment Scheme (NYSES), a ₦250 million initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical skills for self-reliance. The scheme, funded by Chief Ifeanyi Ekwulugwo’s IYCON Foundation, will be implemented in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi (ADON) Vocational and Technical Academy. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed to mark the program’s commencement.
At the launch, Nnewi North Local Government Chairman, Echezona Anazodo, praised the initiative as a transformative step for youth empowerment and pledged government support. Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, emphasized the church’s commitment to skill development, describing the program as an essential tool for youth rehabilitation and crime prevention. The five-year program opens its online applications today. Successful candidates will undergo six months of intensive training at ADON Vocational and Technical Academy in fields such as Electrical and Electronics Technology, Automobile Technology, Building Technology, Catering and Hospitality, and other vocational skills. Outstanding trainees will receive ₦1 million grants to start their businesses. The IYCON Foundation will fund the initiative, while ADON Academy will provide structured training, with the Nnewi Youth Forum overseeing coordination. Source: VANGUARD NG
