The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has announced the launch of a National Cancer Intervention Fund to enhance cancer treatment and care across the country. Speaking at a press briefing, NCS President, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi, emphasized the urgent need for increased funding to address Nigeria’s growing cancer burden. The initiative aims to generate at least ₦10 billion to support cancer treatment, research, and awareness campaigns.
During a seminar organized for the Association of Nigeria Health Journalists (ANHEJ) on improving HPV vaccine uptake, Prof. Omonisi reiterated the government’s commitment to combating cancer. However, he noted that additional resources are critical to making a significant impact. He also highlighted the historical underfunding of cancer care in Nigeria and called for greater efforts to ensure affordable and effective treatment for all citizens. Despite some progress, he stressed that much work remains to be done to adequately address the country's cancer challenges. Source: TRIBUNENG
