NGO Moves to Boost Security Around Federal University of Lafia with Solar Lighting Initiative1/5/2026 The West African Action Network against Small Arms Proliferation has announced plans to install solar-powered streetlights in Gandu community as part of efforts to address rising insecurity around the Federal University of Lafia. Gandu, a neighbouring community to the university, has recently experienced attacks by criminal elements, raising concerns over the safety of residents and students. The Regional Vice President of WAANSAP, Martins Igwe, disclosed the initiative while briefing journalists following a stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia.
Igwe noted that the intervention was prompted by recent reports of attacks in the area, including an incident in which several students were injured.
