A new non-governmental organisation, the Alternative Livelihood Initiative (ALI), has officially launched in Nigeria with a mission to improve livelihoods and create sustainable economic opportunities for women, youths, and vulnerable communities nationwide.
The organisation unveiled its flagship programme, Advancing Sustainable Communities through Enterprise, Nutrition and Livelihood Diversification (ASCEND), during a launch event held in Abuja. The gathering brought together stakeholders from the agriculture, nonprofit, academic, private sector, and government sectors, highlighting a shared commitment to inclusive development.

According to ALI, the ASCEND programme is designed to address some of the most pressing socio-economic challenges facing vulnerable populations. These include poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, limited access to markets, climate-related vulnerabilities, and social exclusion.

Speaking at the event, the organisation's Team Lead, Dr. Theophilus Agada, emphasized ALI's dedication to empowering underserved groups through practical interventions. He noted that the initiative aims to equip women, youths, smallholder farmers, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized populations with the skills, resources, and opportunities needed to build sustainable livelihoods.

With its people-centered approach, ALI hopes to strengthen community resilience, promote economic self-reliance, and contribute to long-term social and economic development across Nigeria.
