The Shelton Climate Awareness Initiative (SCAI), in partnership with the Global Plastic Action Partnership, has carried out a cleanup at Liberty Water Dam in Jos to curb plastic pollution and protect biodiversity. SCAI founder, Lara Eseyin, said the exercise also promotes awareness on recycling, with 100 bins distributed across the Jos-Bukuru metropolis. Director of Operations, Frank Eseyin, added that the cleanup will be held quarterly.
Jos Water Services Corporation Managing Director, Apollos Samchi, commended the effort, noting that Liberty Dam faces threats from mining, farming, and waste dumping. He revealed the state spent ₦1.2 billion this year on water treatment, with costs driven up by pollution. Similar exercises also took place at Jos Wildlife Park, Maiadiko Market, and Abattoir Market.
