The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has inaugurated the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) project in Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Rivers states. This initiative is designed to enhance food security and create employment opportunities across the region. The LIFE-ND project is set to impact over 38,000 direct beneficiaries over the next six years, with 25,000 beneficiaries in states funded by IFAD and 12,750 in states supported by NDDC.
While the program has already begun making strides in the six IFAD-funded states (Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Ondo), Friday’s launch marked the official commencement of the project in the remaining Niger Delta states, namely Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Rivers. Victor Antai, Executive Director of Projects at NDDC, hailed the project as a significant advancement for the region. He emphasized that the collaboration with IFAD has been crucial in supporting local farmers and improving agricultural productivity. Abiodun Sanni, the National Project Coordinator for LIFE-ND, provided an update on the project's progress in the six IFAD-supported states. He assured that the achievements and standards established there would be mirrored in Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Rivers, aiming to replicate the success and elevate the project's impact throughout the entire Niger Delta region.
