The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has extended its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to rural communities in Abia State, using clean technology to promote grassroots enterprise, job creation and local innovation.
Speaking at the launch held at Uma Ukpai Memorial Primary School, Asaga, Ohafia, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Mr. Khalil Halilu, said the initiative was designed to take science and engineering beyond laboratories and place practical solutions directly in the hands of ordinary Nigerians.

Halilu said Abia was strategically selected because of its strong entrepreneurial culture, adding that NASENI’s agenda of creation, collaboration and commercialisation would ultimately be judged by tangible results, including businesses strengthened and jobs supported.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr. Armstrong Takang, commended President Bola Tinubu and Abia State Governor Alex Otti for prioritising infrastructure.

Takang disclosed that efforts were underway to deploy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and electric vehicles to Umuahia, as well as establish a digital facility in Asaga.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), Obinna Odum, pledged the organisation’s full support to expand the programme across Abia’s 17 local government areas.
