In a decisive effort to combat child trafficking, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully reunited nine trafficked children with their families in Kebbi State. The children, rescued from Calabar in Cross River State, were formally handed over to Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Idris denounced the crime as a grave violation of human rights and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to eradicating child trafficking. He called for the prosecution of those responsible, emphasizing that such measures are vital to deterring future crimes. Providing details of the operation, Mas’ud Kaura, the Kebbi State Commander of NAPTIP, disclosed that the children were trafficked from Kebbi to Zamfara State before being moved to Calabar. He confirmed that the agent behind the trafficking has been apprehended and investigations are ongoing.
