No fewer than 200 secondary school students in Modakeke, Osun State, have been awarded scholarships totaling approximately N8.2 million to cover their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees. The initiative, spearheaded by Modakeke Progressive International, USA, benefitted students from 22 private and 11 public schools in the town. According to a statement released by the group, N4,787,000 was allocated to students from public schools, while their counterparts in private institutions received N3,236,800.
President of the organization, Yemi Animasahun, encouraged recipients to view the scholarship as a loan to be repaid in the future, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community. Isaac Salako, the group’s Financial Secretary, detailed the selection process, explaining that candidates were screened based on their Senior Secondary School 2 results before undergoing an assessment test. Expressing gratitude for the initiative, the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, commended the group’s generosity and urged beneficiaries to work hard in their studies to contribute meaningfully to the community in the future.
