The Federal Government has announced the full-scale expansion of the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, targeting over four million women to enhance financial inclusion, livelihood support, and social protection.
Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, disclosed this in Abuja during the inauguration of the Federal Steering Committee for the project. She described the initiative as a major milestone in advancing women’s economic empowerment and social development in line with national gender equality policies.

According to her, the scale-up builds on lessons from the first phase (2018–2024) and has already commenced in 18 states, earning a “satisfactory” rating from the World Bank. “The NFWP-SU strengthens a network of micro-entrepreneurs, savers, and borrowers who form the foundation of a stable and inclusive economy,” she said.

Representing the World Bank Country Director, Mr. Michael Ilesanmi, noted that the project is the largest women’s economic empowerment initiative in Africa and now serves as a model for similar programmes in Liberia, Uganda, South Sudan, and Afghanistan.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Maryam Adebola, commended the World Bank and other partners for their sustained collaboration, pledging continued commitment to building structures that uplift women, families, and communities under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
