Chanja Datti Recycling Co. Ltd has intensified efforts to promote plastic recycling and environmental responsibility through the launch of a new plastic collection centre in Jabi. The initiative forms part of broader efforts aimed at advancing environmental sustainability while creating economic opportunities for residents through recycling.
Speaking during an awareness campaign at the facility, Gabriel Onyebuolise said the project is built on the principles of the circular economy — a system designed to reduce waste and create value from recyclable materials. According to him, the newly operational centre was established through a partnership involving the Abuja Environmental Protection Board and United Nations Industrial Development Organization, with Chanja Datti managing the facility. The collection centre encourages residents to bring recyclable plastic materials in exchange for financial rewards, helping to promote cleaner communities while supporting sustainable waste management practices. Onyebuolise noted that common household plastics including PET bottles, HDPE containers, polypropylene materials, plastic chairs, bottled water containers and soft drink bottles can all be recycled through the initiative.
