On March 7, 2025, the Advocates for Health and Rights of Women and Youth Initiative hosted the Women’s Rights in Human Rights (WRHR) Conference 2025, a powerful gathering designed to inspire, educate, and empower women. The event brought together trailblazing leaders, industry experts, and advocates who engaged in insightful discussions on leadership, gender-based violence, and economic empowerment. The conference began with an inspiring keynote session led by Rolake Akinkugbe Filani, Anchor of Business Week at Arise News, and Emana Shunnom, Governance Consultant at the World Bank Group. Their session, titled "Empowering Women, Advancing Rights," emphasized the importance of confidence and urged women to stop apologizing for having a voice. They encouraged attendees to embrace their leadership potential and take up space in their respective fields.
One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion on women in leadership, which explored the significance of building a legacy, resilience, and the power of uplifting other women, regardless of age. Esteemed panelists, including Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, Freda Anyanwu, Mabel Adeteye, and Dr. Yetty Ogunnubi, shared their personal experiences and strategies for overcoming barriers. Moderated by Laura Ede, the session underscored the importance of mentorship and collective progress. Another key discussion focused on gender-based violence in Africa, looking beyond rhetoric to practical solutions for prevention and support. The panelists, Susmita Adhikari, Bolanle Adekoya, Emmanuel Etim, and Emonena Abenabe Akwara, shared their insights on how individuals and communities can take proactive steps toward creating safer environments. Moderated by Nancy Olive, the conversation reinforced the idea that every action and voice matters in the fight against gender-based violence. The final panel session explored economic empowerment as a pathway to independence, offering practical strategies for women to expand their earning power and secure financial freedom. Speakers Chinonso Clark, Leonard Ogunweide, and Dr. Nnenna Okoli, under the moderation of Oluwakemi Odedeyi, provided valuable insights on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and wealth-building opportunities for women. Beyond the discussions, the conference offered attendees an immersive experience with inspiring voice-over performances, a free Makeup and Media/Communication Masterclass, makeup voucher giveaways, awards for outstanding women, and a relaxing painting session. These interactive sessions created a holistic environment for learning, networking, and personal growth.
