On August 1, 2026, the Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson's Foundation (ADPF) hosted MOVE4PD 2026, an awareness campaign dedicated to promoting greater understanding of Parkinson's disease. With the theme "No One Walks Alone: Courage in Every Step," the event brought together advocates, healthcare professionals, caregivers, Parkinson's warriors, volunteers, corporate partners, and supporters in a united call for awareness, empathy, and support. The event began with an awareness walk from the Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson's Foundation Centre to the National Stadium in Lagos State. Participants carried placards bearing the message "No One Walks Alone," while dance sessions, exercise activities, games, award presentations, and inspiring testimonies from Parkinson's warriors reinforced the day's message of hope and resilience.
The event was supported by partners including IHS, Oleander Bakehouse, and Hallogen, among others, reflecting a growing commitment to improving awareness and advocacy for Parkinson's disease. Speaking with NigerianNGO, Mrs. Morin Desalu, Founder and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson's Foundation, said the theme was inspired by the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that people living with Parkinson's disease and their families know they are never alone. She also encouraged Nigerians to recognize the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, show kindness to those living with the condition, and help break the misconceptions surrounding the disease, noting that Parkinson's affects people of different ages, including young adults. Also speaking at the event, Professor Ademola Oremosu, Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, emphasized the importance of research, education, advocacy, and multidisciplinary care in improving the lives of people living with Parkinson's disease. He described the awareness walk as a strong show of solidarity and a reminder that no one should face the condition without support. MOVE4PD is more than an awareness walk, it is a growing movement that continues to inspire conversations, promote inclusion, and encourage collective action for people living with Parkinson's disease. The message from MOVE4PD 2026 was clear: no one living with Parkinson's should walk the journey alone. Through increased awareness, stronger partnerships, and continued support for organizations like the Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson's Foundation, lasting change is possible.
