On Saturday, July 26th, 2025, the Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson’s Foundation (ADPF) hosted MOVE4PD 2025, a Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Walk themed “Stride with Strength.” The event was a powerful and inspiring moment, focused on spreading awareness and supporting Parkinson’s warriors in Nigeria. The 2km walk brought together over 200 caregivers, warriors, advocates, partners, volunteers, and medical professionals all united by the same vision of improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease. The awareness walk began with a warm-up exercise to get everyone ready to show support and raise their voices for Parkinson’s warriors. Participants walked from the ADPF Center to the National Stadium, where the Founder of ADPF, Omorinsojo Desalu, gave a heartfelt welcome address.
She expressed gratitude to everyone who had supported the journey, emphasizing that this was more than just a walk—it was a statement of solidarity, a step forward for better care, greater understanding, and fuller lives for people living with Parkinson’s disease and their loved ones. The walk was packed with engaging and impactful activities that created awareness while keeping participants energized. Parkinson’s warriors shared their impact stories of resilience, reminding everyone of the strength it takes to live with the condition. There were lively dance sessions that got the crowd moving, and raffle draws where several participants won exciting prizes. The walk also featured boxing and tennis sessions to demonstrate how physical activity can play a significant role in managing Parkinson’s symptoms. In addition, medical professionals were present to provide health checks and attend to those who needed medical attention during the event. The success of MOVE4PD 2025 was made possible through the support of Parkinson’s Africa, TraPCAf, IHS Towers, Halogen, FanMilk, Oleander BakeHouse, COMPSSA, and dedicated volunteers who all came together to amplify awareness about Parkinson’s disease in Nigeria. In an interview with NigerianNGO, Olasoje Quadri praised the physiotherapists at ADPF, saying: “They take all warriors as family and add joy to their lives. I’ve been with the foundation for four years, and there are no regrets whatsoever. I hope the government will come to their aid.” Joy Jiringho, a caregiver at the Center for Happy Elderly People, shared how they connected with ADPF: “Two of the elderly people we care for were diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. We’ve been with ADPF for over a year, and they’ve treated the warriors with care, providing drugs, therapy, and exercises.” Omorinsojo Desalu, founder of ADPF, spoke about her personal journey: “My husband had Parkinson’s, and we walked this journey for 11 years. We decided it would be in vain if we didn’t share our experience to help others navigate this path. When we started, there was no information in Nigeria about Parkinson’s disease. That’s why we set up the ADPF Center to provide knowledge and ensure other families don’t go through the same struggles.” She encouraged Parkinson’s warriors to go out, stay active, and live their lives as fully as possible within their abilities. The MOVE4PD 2025 walk left a lasting impression, one filled with awareness, knowledge, and unwavering support for parkinson’s warriors and their families. It wasn’t just a walk; it was a movement of strength, care, and hope.
